Skydive Chicago Hosts US Nationals

OmniSkore! coverage of the 2007 US Nationals.
Omnibits by Jan Meyer

Sept. 8: at 9 am
Hi all, we have the first rejump of the meet. Team 201 on round 1 had something wrong with the video tape that the judges deemed was beyond his control.
11:00
Airspeed just posted a 26 in round 2. It was clean. The judges only looked at it one time. Fastrax Blue posted an 18.

Team Twisted had a really bad time. The photographer did not watch the team exit. He was watching the prop instead. There is a 20% penalty when that happens. Then the framing of the team was bad and then the sun glared into the camera. They were busted to all 0.

Perris Fury posted a 23 for round 2 and is 5 points behind Airspeed.

11:30

Two Perris teams, Katalyst and Aftermath, and a team from Cross Keys, CK Vision, are taking the lead in Advanced.

Tim checked in said he was about 1/2 through the team pics.

In case anyone, did not know, the draws for all the competions are (will be) posted on the Competition Home page.

I just found out that Perris Mini-Smack, aka PMS, says that they did not plan a team name with that abbreviation. With former Gumby's team member Dan Pillasch on the team, it is hard to believe their story.

12:00

The reason 410 Fastrax Red's round 2 is taking so long to judge is because they had to do a redub. When they did the redub, it was the wrong dive. The judges should get it on the next dvd. So that result will be in the next 30 or so minutes.

Fastrax Red posted a 26 in round 2. They are only 1 point behind Airspeed.

Katalyst busted point 7 in round 3. They posted a 14. That may open a door for Aftermath and Vision.

In the Intermediate class the race is among Cross Keys Air Poluution, USAF Invictus and a home team, SDC's Quattro.

Tim has been called to judge duty. Team photos probably will not be posted until tommorrow.

1:30
Fastrax Red posted a 26 in round 3. They are still one point behind Airspeed and 5 ponts ahead of GK Black.

2:30
Perris Fury posted a clean 20 in round 4. Airspeed posts a 23 in round 4.

3:30
GK Black posted 29 in round 5. It was very smooth and clean. Perris Fury posted 28 in round 5. Airspeed posted 32 in round 5.

4:30
A lot of people are asking what the 20% rule is. Basically, it says if the video does not show the exit, so the judges know when to start the clock, your score is reduced by 20% of the points that are shown in the video. They sort of guess when to start the clock. It's in the IPC rules. It took the judges awhile to find the rule for the competitors that asked about. They knew the rule cold.

Lori Thomas gives a 'Go-Team!' to Perris Fury.

Another update on why 410's video is always much later than everyone else. It's because they have PAL and are doing something different that takes longer.

After round 5 Airspeed has a 5 point lead over Fastrax Red. They are 4 points ahead of GK Black. Perris Fury is 10 points out of 3rd place. They are doing a great job.

Late Night

Update in the Advanced Class, a rejump for team 315 Perris Aftermath was granted for round 6. The plane was banking while they were exiting. They put in a protest that was readily granted. Don Simonds, their photographer, told me that he was sort of tossed off to a weird relative position to the team. I believe they will be doing the rejump first off tommorrow. Even with the bad jump, Aftermath is only 2 points behind Katalsyt, another Perris team.

"We'll fix it in the inter."
After the rejump, I suspect Katalyst and Aftermath will be tied, or maybe Aftermath will take the lead.

Meanwhile, in the Open class, after round 7, Airspeed has increased its lead to 9 points over Fastrax Red. With only 3 rounds to go that is a BIG lead.

The home team SDC's Quattro, in the Intermediate class, is only 2 points out of first place behind the AF Ascent team. Third place is tied now with Cross Keys Air Pollution and USAF Invictus.
