2005 Valentine's Money Meet
Eloy, Arizona
0630
It is raining here in the Valley of the Sun, as it has been for the last 36 hours. I intend to be at the DZ later today and will post some notes on teams, vibes, etc. Meanwhile, I'm going back to bed. ;-)

0900
Round one is in the air, but it may just be a plane ride. We shall see shortly.

There are seven teams registered - 4 Open (AAA), 3 AA, and 3 A. UPDATE - 4 A teams now.

...fifteen minutes later, we have teams landing, so first scores coming soon...

....we have Ted's laptop on the wireless network here, so I'm blogging this straight from the judging room...

With half of round 2 done, we're back on a weather hold. GK Black looks really sharp so far, crisp and clean.

For those curious about the Airspeed lineup this year, it is as follows:

Airspeed Odyssey:
Craig Girard, Eliana Rodriguez, Andy Delk, Brian Johnson, Will Pesek (V)

Airspeed Velocity:
Neal Houston, Kirk Verner, Dennis Rook, Andy Honigbaum, Steve Nowak (V)

I apologize in advance for any misspelled names...

...here is the AAA draw: Rd1: 19 13 1; Rd2: M O G 12; Rd3: H 20 4; Rd4: 10 21 Q; Rd 5: A 16 11; Rd 6: P 15 B 3

I will have the dive pool updated here on omniskore.com when I get a circular tuit (hopefully next weekend, I have one back-ordered).

BTW, I don't have email here, so if any of the three of you watching this have any feedback or questions send it to wazt2@yahoo.com.

We're jumping again...I think...I was just handed a cheeseburger...munch munch...

1430
On weather hold...cloudy and breezy...supposed to be improving...

1630
Jumping again...on hold again...

...GK Black had two busts on round 4, and now we have a tie game in AAA...they were on a roll on that jump too...

...we are using the new IPC rules where a bust is a one-point loss, not two, which seems to be a popular decision with the competitors...

...Ted will not be here tomorrow, which means that this laptop won't be here, which means I probably won't be blogging the show...sorry, you might have to wait until Monday for the final results, but I'll try to find something out here to use...

SUNDAY 2130
It was a wonderful Valentine's Money Meet. But in my haste to get home to the family, I forgot to bring home a hardcopy of the final scores, so you'll have to wait a few days for those.

4-Way Recap
The Golden Knights won the gold in convincing fashion, posting a 23 on the 6th round to beat Airspeed Odyssey by four points. That score of 23 was made all the more impressive by the draw: it had cat > 360 > cat and side flake opal > turf in it. Not shabby at all for a team so early in the training year.

Equally impressive in my book was the performance turned in by the other Golden Knights team in AA class. These guys, or rather three guys and a gal, were not from the comp team, but cobbled together from headquarters, style & acc, etc. The GK Commanding Officer shot video! With no training jumps together, they put together 6 solid rounds. Hats off to them too.

The two Airspeed teams both looked very good, and it will be very interesting indeed to watch these teams meet again at the nationals.

8-Way
4 teams competed, but it was not much of a contest. Arizona Airspeed put up close to a 16 point average on a slow draw to run away from the Knights early. The Knights weren't shabby at all for no training jumps together and put up a 10+ average. 8-way completed 5 rounds after teams finished 4-way late in the morning. Airspeed 8 looked very, very good, as impressive as the GK 4-way squad so early in the year.

Skydive Arizona was again a great comp host, it was amazing they got as much done yesterday as they did between the long weather holds.

Sorry so short on the other teams, I couldn't blog on site today so this will have to do. But based on this weekend, it looks to be a very interesting competition year. We shall see!
