0800 CF is going up. First task today is getting the results pages for the Artistic events complete.
Sifting through today's mail, I had about 42 notices (all of them polite, thank you!) that the FS 4-Way (Open) results page was 404. Sorry about that! It's back up. If it disappears again, please let me know.
The Artistic results are fixed ... the problem was with the ranking indicators for teams that had been cut after round 5 ...
(In all the Artistic events, rounds 2 and 5 are compulsory rounds, with Freefly doing their "speed" round in round 5. All other rounds are "free" routines, which normally yield higher scores. Italy's team was in first place after each of the first four rounds, didn't drop into second until after round 5.) 0915 CF Sequential just completed round 5. The USA gained a point on Russia, while France padded their lead.
Rotations round 6 now in progress, and positively nothing else. Hacker's lament: competition standings are sooooo much fun. Did you know: there are no rules, official or otherwise, defining if, when, where or how "standings" are to be done? The competition rules have paragraphs which determine the top three places, but even those are for the final placings of the top three (at least in CF). Incomplete rounds, joker rounds, posted scores, protested scores, certified scores, cut teams, withdrawn teams, guest teams, skinny teams, fat teams, tall teams, short teams, vegetarian teams, skinny vegetarian teams, blah blah blah ... if your team is not in the top 8 places and doesn't show up in the right row in the "standings", please write to your discipline's subcommittee chairperson!!!
1030 CF Rotations round 6 is complete and Russia is way ahead of the pack. The USA has taken sole possession of second place, a point ahead of Sweden, with two rounds to go.
1220 CF continues ... USA and Russia both had bad jumps in Sequential round 6, each posting a 7, but that goes down as Russia's "joker" round, dropping USA another point back going into round 8.
VIPs are here today:
Time to take a walk!
1415 Not much going on here in the early afternoon. Lot of noise in the building's bathrooms as they set up for some doping controls. If I understand correctly, the FAI must administer approved anti-doping measures at its sanctioned championships in order to be a member of the World Games Association.
1600 Judging 4-Way Open round 8 now, while I try to update standings software to properly handle cuts. Fun fun fun!!
Freefly Round 6 just finished and Rook and Mike hold on to a two-tenths of a point lead with just one round to go!
An ongoing issue I wish I had time to keep up with: the USA won a protest in CF Sequential round 3. While they won the protest, the judges didn't change the score, and a bust still stands in the round. I'll try to get the full story posted here and keep you up to date ... An upset to report from the Style & Accuracy final results: USA Women's Team Accuracy scored the bronze medal. Congratulations ladies!
FS 4-Way Open round 8 is now winding down. The USA did 18, as did the Norgies; France continues to stampede the competition with a 21.
So, do you think Airspeed (USA 8-Way) is feeling
any pressure? Remember, last time (Spain 2001), Russia was down 4
points to the USA going into round 9, and USA,
In other events: after round 7 of CF Speed, the Russians now trail the USA by only a few seconds, that going into the final round. In Freefly Female, the Italian team did round 7 (the final round), but they still have the zero at round 6. There is a rule now that teams failing to make a manifest call can do the jump later but with a 20% penalty applied to the score (this rule existing for all events and disciplines). I don't know if they're going to do that ... 1720 ... and in FS 4-Way Female round 9... yoos guyz up north (yes you know who I'm talking about): don't break your keyboards pounding the refresh button -- that 150 UK points to Norway's 144 is not a typo!!! UK did a 16, Norway a 12 (one bust), so the UK ladies take a commanding 6-point lead into the final round! USA did a 16 to pull 3 ahead of Italy in third place. For you UK/V-Max fans out there, you can click here for a full-size version of their photo above. 1800 I've adjusted the Artistic results pages to include the performer and videographer's names. For all but Freefly, the names appear "Performername / Videoname". For Freefly, the two performers' names are comma-separated as one entry in Pegasus, so on the results pages you'll see "Performer1name, Performer2name / Videoname". I should have done that long ago, sorry for the delay! All Artistic events except Freefly are done. Note that the official final results won't be official, final and officially final for another hour or two yet. Still some screaming and shouting to be done.
FS 8-Way round 9 is now being judged. Larry, pass the Valium please! France does a 24 on a very nice jump. Here's the USA ... also a 24; they were a little slow on most of the Sidebody Donuts, but good everywhere else. And the Russians do a ... 21! Just a one point advantage for the leaders going into the final round!!! A quick walk to see what's going on Out There ...
1900 FS 4-Way Round 9 is in the air ... The schedule for tomorrow morning:
FS 4-Way semi-final round results coming in now. UK, 19; Italy, 18; Norway, 19; USA is up ... a 19. A few more minutes until we see France ... here they go ... also a 19, a popular score for this round. I'm now training NetPost to figure out that teams have been cut and that 9 really is The Completed Round ... ... done!
2025 So, the FS rules say that 8 teams survive the cut before the semi-final round, and 4 teams after. The word in the rules is "placings" or "places" or something like that -- the "top four". I assume all y'all have looked at the current FS 4-Way Open standings? One way to read them into the current situation is that there are three placings in the top four teams -- two of them tied for third. In other words, if you say "the top four placings", that includes Italy, a total of five teams. Are you with me, or did I get too much of a head start on the wine? Anyway, rumor has it (you did not read it here, at least not tonight) that "they" (<-- use your imagination who) are trying to make sure Italy is included in the finals round. I think that would be great, since they're only two points behind 3d. 2100 Confirmed! Italy FS 4-Way will do the finals round tomorrow. Won't that be something if they finish in third place!!! A quiz for you FS lovers who fancy yourselves competition aficionados. Extra credit to participants who started skydiving after 1990. This is not an open-book examine -- answer the questions from memory or not at all:
No cheating -- trust me, I'll know. See you tomorrow!!! ~t1 (Tidbitateer) |
