It's windy and overcast and not very pretty but at least it's not
raining! The competitors are on standby, but I don't think we'll see any
jumping this morning. The power went out at the competition venue
around 6pm, as I was about 2/3 through my rewrite of the Freefly speed
round OmniWare. So I turned off all the power switches I could find,
walked back to the empty and quiet hotel, and tried to figure out how I
could make it to the banquet, in progress at Castello D'Empuries a few
kilometers away. While standing at the hotel desk feeling wet, lonely
and forgotten, a Russian competitor asked the receptionist if there was
a map or directions to the banquet. Hellz bellz, I had that right in my
pocket, and he had an empty seat in his car, and off we went.
We got lots of pictures there and hope to get some posted soon.
This morning they still can't get the power working at the
competition area north of the soccer field, so I relocated my laptop to
the press room in the old DZ building 100m or so south of the field,
where hopefully I can finish the AE hacks while the whether clears.

Still on weather hold and trying to sort out the electricity problem
and the Freefly OmniWare has an initial and enthusiastic thumbs up from
Ruth (AE judge).
I had a pleasant meeting this morning with Patrice Girardin of the
Fédération Française de Parachutisme in which we began
planning for the
Mondial 2003, which promises to be the best organized and best
executed world meet I've attended. The good news is that they will have
heavy Internet coverage on their web site, carefully planned and with
streaming video. The not-so-good news for omniskore.com fans is that
there will be no scores on our web page; NetPost will take a rest. There
will be Tidbits and commentary, but that's all -- no team photos or
scoring results.

I just finished the Artistic Events software tweaks, and this
included an update that removes guest teams from the ranking. So you'll
see a dash next to USA Arizona Freeflight in the rankings column for
Freefly.
Freestyle results have been re-posted. My apologies for the absence
of those results since last night but I had to get the standings stuff
done first. Everyone please note that the standings/results you see on
this web site are unofficial. In fact, the only thing
that's ever "official" is the hardcopy results with the chief judges'
signature on them.

I'm taking a poll. You're a guest competitor at a major competition.
(A guest competitor is one not eligible for prizes/medals. But guest
is not defined in IPC competition rules.) As a registered
competitor, you clearly expect your jumps to be evaluated just like
everyone else and displayed along with everyone else's. Here's the
question: How do you think your name should appear in a standings
report? (Here is an example. Other examples
are the "Standings At Round" and "Final Standings" hardcopies that the
chief judge signs and distributes.) Do you think your name should always
appear at the bottom of the list, or do you think your name should
appear at the appropriate place in the list but without a ranking
number? Send your response to me here.
Anticipating that the competitors will be released for the day at
1700, I'm shutting down and relocating to a location that has Sangria
and a new guitar. I happen to know of one very close by! :) |
