Hack hack hack8-Way continues with Round 8 ...
Artistic Events judging begins in a few minutes ...
Canopy Formation begins at noon today ...
Okay, here's the deal with AE judging. Please don't nobody send me no
heat about seeing no AE results 'cause they're *not* going to appear
here with much (if any) timeliness. (And I'm not happy about that.) The
reason for this is that there are only two judging systems at the
competition venue, and three things a goin' on. The original thought was
that FS would be done by today, but it's not, so AE judging will begin
on the judging system that has been used so far for off-line judge
training, about 200 meters south of the venue. There is no video, no
network, no nothing between me and that judging system. So AE scores
will be a complete mystery to me unless and until someone brings them to
me and I can fat-finger them into results pages. Where's my coffee?!

Semi-final and final rounds of all FS events will be done over the
next several hours if the weather cooperates. A cloud layer has been
moving in and out and up and down. The AE judges [expletive deleted

their results/web pages. This requires some new OmniCode, hence the
hacking ...

Team names and numbers are now posted for the Artistic Events.
(Kindly ignore any links you see in those tables -- they will point to
nothing for a while.) I will get scores inserted as quickly as I can get
them. As soon as FS is completed this afternoon the AE judges will
relocate to the "fishbowl", after which the scores will be posted to the
'Net as quickly as the judges can come up with them.
The ladies' 4-Way semi-final round is done, and 8-Way is halfway.

The French 8-Way team looks very good. They just
missed a 20 on round 9, and their Swiss Bear - Swiss Bear was artful.
Arizona Airspeed will have their hands full preparing to beat this team
in Gap next year. It's exciting to see there will be a hot race in 8-Way
in Gap!
And speaking of Gap next year -- they already have a very nice web
page, hosted by Cyrano. Visit him at
http://www.mondial03.com.
The 'bits will be a bit quiet this afternoon while I tackle the team
pages for the Artistic Events...
Scratch that, the AE teams pages won't get any work until tomorrow.
But round 1 results are up, except for Freefly.

*lol* I loved this bit of feedback in the e-mail:
"It is great to follow the meet via your website. What's great
about it is that you announce the broken links in advance ;-)"
Thanks for the note, and we'll get to work on those links soon!
Also in today's mail: I found out I can lose unwanted pounds in my
sleep while making money at home and get a 1.0% APR mortgage for $1. All
that, without a hot stock tip!
I thought that FS would wrap up earlier, but they're dragging it out
to the end of the day, so it's more likely that the AE judges will do
their relocation tomorrow morning. It will be difficult for me to get
score updates until that's done, but I'll continue to try. But 8-way is
done, and France is winner of both the World Cup and European
Championships 2002. Congratulations, France
8-Way!

Canopy Formations is completed through round 1 in all events; I'll
have the CF 8-way scores up soon. FS 4-Way Open just finished their
semi-final round, and DeLand Majik takes a 3-point lead into the final
round.

Argh. My cell phone was stolen from my hotel room yesterday. Maybe
after they figure out that they can't use it in Europe they'll return
it.

Ladies 4-Way finals is about to be, uhm, final! V-Max is about to
wrap up their gold medal performance ... the Norway girls did an 18 with
a couple of really sweet diamond-bunyips ... V-Max needs a 12 to win,
and they do so with an 18. Nicely done,
V-Max!!!

Whoa, USA AZ Airspeed smoked a 28 in the final round to nip France
Maubeuge for the silver medal! What a skydive. USA DeLand
Majik finishes with a 25 for their second straight gold medal at an IPC
sanctioned event. Get this: a 21.6 average didn't even get you a medal
in 4-Way Open. That was some amazing skydiving we saw here, especially
in the final round.

Note to all: I know the results pages for 4-way and 8-way are not
altogether complete and accurate and present, the reason is that NetPost
(my automatic tool that creates those pages) is quasibroken, and I'm
hack hack hacking away trying to fix it. The problem is it that it stops
doing totals and averages at the first incomplete round, and it thinks
round 9 is "incomplete" because of the cut. The corrected pages will be
up shortly ... thank you for your patience ...

< Jim Carey> Allllllllrighty then! < /Jim Carey >
The good news is the final standings for World Cup 2002 FS events are
finally correct. The bad news is, I can't get results tables for the
European Championship to post with them. The reason is that some teams
survived the semi and/or final round cuts for the EC who did not survive
the same number of rounds in the WC. So there are scores in the EC that
are not in the WC and scores in the WC that are not in the EC. Some (but
not all) of the scores that are in the EC that are not in the WC were
created in "manual override" mode by the judges that basically makes
them unavailable to NetPost, the tool that creates the results pages.
Sigh ...
Woohoo!!! Artistic Events results in all disciplines are now posted
through round 2. Apologies for the slightly different format than the FS
events ... you have to do some eye-hunting at the rankings columns to
get the standings, but all the info you need is there.
This has been a long day and now I see the sangria at the end of the
tunnel so we're outta here, see ya tomorrow! |
