World Meet 2006 World Meet Gera, Germany August 5-11, 2006
The OmniSkore systems are in Gera for the World Meet. OmniSkore will have the 'unofficial' scores posted. The official scores will only be posted at FAI and NSL.
Weather forecast for Gera.

Current Standings - at a glance:
These are also the final standings, as bad weather prevented any more complete rounds.
The tie-breaker between Russia and USA in Women's 4-way went to Russia.
A little note on this: On the FAI web page the table with the listings shows USA as 3rd and Russia as 4th. But at the top of the page it says: "Bronze Medal goes to Russia with 73 points" and at the bottom of the page it says: "Between 312 and 310 based on last non-tied score at round 4". I had originally posted that USA took third when their web site only had the table of listings and the table still shows USA as 3rd and Russia 4th. Sorry for any confusion. Also WorldMeet2006 and NSL show USA as 3rd and Russia 4th. The FAI site has the OFFICIAL scores. On the FAI site Norway is listed as 306, I believe it should be 303. They all are off at the closing ceremonies. Congratulations to all.

Where are the OmniSkore scoresheets?
The scoresheets are on the OmniSkore systems in Gera. The hanger that the systems are in does NOT have internet access. That is why they are not on the OmniSkore.com web site. (This situation will not happen again.)

Aug. 10 - Ok's it is not quite the 10th yet. The weather is looking grim. The satellite picture shows most of Europe under cloud cover. The forcast is for an 80% chance of rain for both Thursday and Friday. Let's hope the weather clears so more jumps can be made.
We still have ties to resolve. (Yeah I know there are rules about how to break those ties, but it would be more exciting to see jumps break the tie.)
Bad weather has prevented more jumps. It is still 'hurry up and wait'. The satellite picture looks better, so maybe those forecasters will be wrong.
The events are skipping the remaining selection rounds and going to the semi-final and final rounds. Those are the last two rounds. Only the top 10 teams will do those rounds. This may be subject to change as the weather continues to be bad and time runs out.
According to the WorldMeet2006 web site the last planes have taken off. "Competition ends at 6 p.m. (last take off)." The jury may have extended this time if there is clear enough skies. Or maybe the planes will circle until there is a hole. One score has been post in 8-way about an hour ago.
The closing banquet starts in about 3 hours. We'll know for sure by then if any more rounds got off.
Looks like the competition has officially ended.

Aug. 9 - 8-way has 5 rounds completed. France has taken a 5 point lead over USA. Russia is a distant third.
Now after 6 rounds, USA gained one point in their deficit. They are now 4 points behind France. France beat USA in rounds 2 and 3 by 2 points and by 1 point in round 5. They tied in rounds 1 and 4. USA beat France by one point in round 6. The numbers say the edge goes to France. The forecast is for 80% rain on Thursday and Friday. USA has their work cut out for them, if they want a come from behind win. France looks very strong and probably won't mess anything up.
It looks like Russia has the Bronze medal locked up.

4-way: After 4 rounds USA increased it's lead to 3 points over Italy. Russia is in third place, two points behind Italy. France is two points back.
Now, after 5 rounds, USA has a two point lead over France. Yes that's right France. Italy is now in third, only one point behind France. Russia has dropped to 4th place, one point behind Italy. This is definitely a horse race.

4-way Women: After 4 rounds, Great Britian is two points ahead of France. In a distant, third place tie are Russia and USA. They are 4 points ahead of 5th place Germany. Now, after 5 rounds, Great Britain has a 6 point lead over France. UK got 22 to France's 18 in round 5. Russia and USA remain tied for third place.

4-way Combined: This is nothing official, but many people want to know what the 4-way open and Women's classes would be if they were combined. Check it out.

Freefly: France1, France 2 and Italy lead the freefly event after 2 rounds. The draws for round 2 and 5 are:

Round 2
  • V. Compressed
  • Double sit to foot
  • H. Compressed
  • Belly Star
  • Double Spock
Round 5
  • Double Grip V.Versa
  • Double grip headdown
  • Sole to Sole
  • Totem
  • Single grip headup

Skysurf Female: Only 3 teams, ordered as Russia, France, Germany after 2 rounds.

Skysurf Male: Still waiting scores from round 2.

Freestyle - Female: Finland 1, Japan and France head the field after two rounds.

Freestyle - Male: France 1, France 2 and USA lead over the forth team from Russia after 3 rounds.

Weather continues to be a problem.

Aug. 8 - As the sun sets in Southern California, the sun is almost ready to rise in Gera. The satellite picture is looking worse now. My guess is that Freefly, Skysurf-male and Freestyle-female will be on the first loads of the day. They only need one complete round per event to consider a meet 'official'. Only a few more scores have been posted. They found another Otter. All they need now is some blue sky. It looks like they are getting some jumps off now. After one round, freestyle female has Finland 1 out in front and France 2 and Switzerland tied for second.

The weather forecast and the satellite picture show clearing conditions for tonight. But the competition does not do night jumps. They have about 4 more hours of daylight.

Great Britain's Women's team, Emma Beyer, Julia Foxwell, Amanda Kemp, Claire Scott and Andrew Wright - Video, just posted a 23 in round two. Way to go!
The French Women's team posted a 22. That is awesome too.
UK and France are tied for first place with a commanding 11 point lead. Russia and Germany are tied for third place. USA is one point behind them.

8-way: France takes a two point lead over USA in Round 2 by posting a 25 to USA's 23. Russia, in third place, has a 4 point lead over Italy.

4-way: USA posted a 27 in round 2 to take the lead. Italy is two points behind. Belgium and Russia are tied for third place, one point behind Italy. Norway is only one point behind Belgium and Russia.

The sun has set over Gera now. More scores for AE are expected.

Let's hope that the weather clears and more jumps are made tommorrow. This is an exciting competition. No one has a 'gimme' victory yet. France in 8-way is starting to pull away from the pack, but anything can happen with only a 2 point margin.

The battle between the UK and France in Women's 4-way will heat up no doubt. Those two teams have pulled away from the rest of the field. The third place battle is among 3 teams.

You be the Judge: Want to get an idea on how difficult it is to judge FS?
RealxStream has videos of dives that are linked from the NSL site.
A web based prototype scoring training tool is available at DiveMaker.com
Try it out and let us know if you agree with the judges. Keep in mind that streaming video may sometimes pause and mess up the timeline. Also the scoring training tool does not account for busts (not yet anyway).

Aug. 7 - Jumping starts under partly cloudy skies and shuts down because of clouds. More jumps were done at the end of the day. Winds are a problem. There is also some aircraft problem. Larry Hill got a call asking for a plane to be sent out. But it takes two days to fly an Otter to Europe from Arizona, so that plan won't work. I think they are down to two Otters for the meet. If the weather cooperates, then all jumps will probably get off. The satellite picture does look better than ever before.

Eight-way has USA and France tied at 18 in first place. Russia with 16 is in 3rd place. Only one round has been jumped.

Four-way has Russia with top honors with 21 points. USA has 20 points and Italy and Belgium are tied with 19 points.

Four-way Women has France with 17 in first and UK with 16 in second, followed by a 4-way tie with 12 points each for Switzerland, Germany, Russia and USA.

Skysurf-Female only has 3 teams entered. They are ranked Russia, France Germany.

Freestyle-Male has 4 teams entered. They are ranked France 1, France 2, USA.

No scores yet for Freefly, Skysurf-male or Freestyle-female.

Aug. 6 - The weather is not cooperating. Everyone that has emailed me says today looks like it'll be a loss. They are on two hour holds that are renewed every two hours. It's the 'hurry up and wait' game. If it brightens up, I'll let you know.

OmniSkore is under new management, not that there was anything wrong with the old management. Ted and Tim Wagner have found other interests, like raising a family and soaring.

Larry Hill OmniSkore is now owned exclusively by Larry Hill/Skydive Arizona. Larry commissioned Ted and Tim Wagner to develop OmniSkore in the early 1990's. Many years of improvements have made OmniSkore the world class leader in competition scoring. As the tag line says Omniskore is the judges' choice and the competitors' voice.

Jan Meyer OmniSkore hardware and software support is now done by Jan Meyer. Jan has been jumping since 1981 and has more than 6000 jumps. Ted said Jan was the 'perfect person' to take over OmniSkore support.
